Tahitian beauties in Miss Universe

Here are the Tahitian beauties who have represented the islands of French Polynesia in the Miss Universe pageant. They are of native Polynesian ancestry and some are mixed with European settlers in the region. For their national costumes in the pageant, delegates usually depicted traditional Tahitian dancers wearing long grass skirts, coconut shell bra and ornate headpieces made of flowers, leaves, feathers and precious stones.


Tahiti debuted in the Miss Universe 1962 in Long Beach, California and was represented by Catherine Banner, who won the title of Miss Juillet 1962. Nicknamed "Cathy", she was noted for her exotic Polynesian beauty and eye-catching set of national costumes.

Thilda Raina Fuller won the title of Miss Tahiti 1979. From Papeete, she was working as a grammar school teacher before winning her title, Fluent in Tahitian, French and English, the stunning Polynesian beauty soon competed as Miss Tahiti in the Miss World 1979 pageant held in London, United Kingdom. During the pageant, Thilda was a favorite among the audience and press. She also performed a traditional Tahitian dance as her talent.

She then competed as Miss Tahiti in the Miss France 1980 national pageant and became the eventual winner. However, 3 days after the national pageant, Thilda resigned from her Miss France title, declining to live in mainland France as part of her duties. The Miss France title was then awarded to her first runner-up and Thilda was awarded a new title, Miss France Outre Mer 1980 (Miss France Overseas). 

Thilda soon competed in the Miss Universe 1980 pageant held in Seoul, South Korea, where she competed as Miss Tahiti, and was among the Top 12 semi-finalists.

Tatiana Teraiamano won the title of Miss Tahiti 1980. A bank teller before winning her title, she hails from Paea and soon competed as Miss Tahiti in the Miss France 1981 national pageant, winning the title of Miss France Outre Mer 1981 (Miss France Overseas).

The exotic Polynesian beauty soon represented Tahiti in the Miss Universe 1981 pageant held in New York City, New York, and was among the Top 12 semi-finalists.

Hinarii Kilian won the title of Miss Tahiti 1984. Hailing from Papeete, she and her family are descendants of the Pomare dynasty of Tahitian monarchs. A student when she won her title, she competed as Miss Tahiti in the Miss France 1984 national pageant and international pageants, Miss World 1984 held in London, United Kingdom, and Miss Universe 1985 held in Miami, Florida.

Mareva Georges won the title of Miss Tahiti 1990. Born and raised in Papeete, she comes from a mixed background; her father is German while her mother is of Polynesian and American descent. After winning the title, Mareva relocated to mainland France to pursue a degree in economics while doing modeling jobs. Fluent in French, English and Spanish, she soon competed as Miss Tahiti in the Miss France 1991 pageant, eventually winning the national title.

The statuesque, green-eyed brunette soon became France's representative in the Miss Universe 1991 pageant, held in Las Vegas, Nevada. A favorite during the pageant, Mareva finished among the Top 10 semi-finalists, ending a 19-year placement drought for France.

Mareva represented France again, this time, in the Miss World 1991 pageant, held in Atlanta, Georgia, and finished among the Top 10 semi-finalists.


Mareva Galanter won the title of Miss Tahiti 1998. Born and raised in Papeete, she is of Polynesian, Russian and Romanian descent. Having worked as a model since her teenage years, she also holds a degree in economics and speaks French, Tahitian, English and Spanish. The stunning brunette soon competed as Miss Tahiti in the Miss France 1999 national pageant and eventually won the title.

Soon after, she became France's representative in the Miss Universe 1999 pageant held in Chaguaramas, Trinidad and Tobago, where she became a favorite.

After the pageant, Mareva pursued a career in France's entertainment industry, becoming active as a singer, musician, TV host and actress.


Hinarani de Longeaux won the title of Miss Tahiti 2012. Hinarani was born in Papeete and is of mixed French and Polynesian descent. At the time she won her title, she was working as an executive assistant in a travel agency and has been doing modeling jobs. Hinarani soon competed as Miss Tahiti in the Miss France 2013 national pageant and finished as premiere dauphine (first princess).


Hinarani was soon appointed to represent France in the Miss Universe 2013 pageant held in Moscow, Russia. With her exotic looks and dusky complexion, the statuesque beauty became a favorite during the pageant.
