Mai Shanley from Alamogordo, New Mexico, won the title of Miss New Mexico USA 1984. A first generation American, she comes from a multiracial family with a military background; her father is an air force sergeant who immigrated from Ireland while her mother is Chinese originally from Taiwan. At the time, she was a college student majoring in elementary education. She soon represented the state of New Mexico in the Miss USA 1984 pageant. With her vivaciousness and charm, she topped both the interview and swimsuit rounds and eventually won the national title of Miss USA 1984. The stunning Eurasian beauty soon competed as Miss USA in the Miss Universe 1984 pageant held in Miami, Florida, where she finished among the Top 10 semi-finalists.
Chiann Fan won the title of Miss Washington USA 1989. Born in Tokyo, Japan to Taiwanese parents, she and her family immigrated to the United States, eventually settling in Houston, Texas. Before winning the state title, she was based in Seattle, pursuing a degree in psychology and has previously held local beauty titles in Washington. Chiann soon represented Washington in the Miss USA 1989 pageant. For her state costume, she wore a red apple-inspired costume, representing the leading product and state fruit of Washington.
Kelly Hu won the title of Miss Hawaii Teen USA 1985. Born and raised in Honolulu, she comes from a Chinese Hawaiian background and was a high school student when she won the state title. She soon represented Hawaii in the Miss Teen USA 1985 pageant. With her exotic looks and vivacious charm, she became a favorite during the pageant finals, eventually winning the title of Miss Teen USA 1985. After her reign, Kelly graduated from high school and soon embarked on an acting career. Moving to Los Angeles, she starred in several TV shows, advertisements and films. Kelly soon competed in and won the Miss Hawaii USA 1993 pageant. She again represented Hawaii, this time in the Miss USA 1993 pageant. A huge favorite during the competition, Kelly won the Miss Photogenic award. For her state costume, she depicted Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of volcanoes and fire. On the pageant finals, she was among the Top 12 semi-finalists and topped the evening gown round and eventually finished among the Top 6 finalists. After the pageant, Kelly continued her acting career and also ventured into modeling. She has starred in blockbuster Hollywood films and has also became active in voice acting.
Tracey Chang (常馨月) won the title of Miss New York USA 2009. Born in Beijing, China, Tracey and her family moved to New York when she was a child. Before winning the state title, Tracey obtained a degree in economics and was working as a financial analyst. She is also fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese. The stunning Chinese American beauty soon represented New York in the Miss USA 2009 pageant, where she was a favorite among the press and the audience. Years after the pageant, Tracey relocated to Asia and became a news anchor and reporter for several broadcasting companies in the region.
Emma Wo won the title of Miss Hawaii Teen USA 2008. Born and raised in Oahu, Emma comes from a family of entrepreneurs; her father is Chinese and is in the furniture business while her mother, who is mixed Chinese and Irish, is in the supermarket chain industry. At the time when she won the state title, she was pursuing a degree in media studies while also being a part-time model. She soon represented Hawaii in the Miss Teen USA 2008 pageant. Years later, Emma competed in and won the Miss Hawaii USA 2015 pageant. By that time, she has was already working as a public relations executive while also being a fashion blogger. She became Hawaii's delegate in the Miss USA 2015 pageant, where she finished among the Top 11 Semi-finalists. After the pageant, Emma made appearances in the remakes of American TV shows, Hawaii Five-O (2015) and Magnum P.I. (2019).
