EURA
The Eurasians of Malaysia and Singapore are the mixed-race descendants of European colonists. These descendants trace their European heritage to the Portuguese, Dutch and British settlers during the colonial times. Meanwhile, their Asian heritage is from the local population of the Malay archipelago or the various Asian immigrants who have settled in the region. Eurasian communities usually follow the religion and cultural practices of their European forefathers. Particularly, the Portuguese Eurasian community from Malacca (also known as Serani), developed their own creole language - Kristang. Let us meet the Eurasian beauties from Malaysia and Singapore who represented their countries in the Miss Universe pageant.
Malays are the majority ethnic group of Malaysia while in Singapore, they are the second largest ethnic group and are recognized as the indigenous peoples of the country. Their ancestry is native to the regions of the Malay peninsula, eastern Sumatra and coastal Borneo, which are collectively known as “the Malay world”. They follow Islam, practice Malay customs and speak the Malay language. The Malay community also extends to the descendants of early immigrant groups from neighboring regions who have assimilated to the local Malay culture and society.
